Christmas Gifts and Crafts

The following courses/workshops are now full.  Reserve bookings can be taken.

With a sewing machine (either yours or ours) make one or two items from the following:

  • Bunting (for various occasions).
  • Wedding garters!
  • Tote bags.
  • Cushions.
  • Heart fabric ornaments.
  • Gift bags and pillows.
  • Apron.
  • Book cover.
  • Xmas stocking.
  • Xmas wreath or tree.

Bring along:

  • Sewing machine (or use ours), foot control, plug, any feet, accessories.
  • Main fabric and trimmings for 2 items with matching thread.
  • Patterns can be borrowed on the day.
  • Instruction Manual.

A pack will be available to purchase from the tutor on the day at a small cost. Take home a lovely finished project.

Participants must be able to use a sewing machine.  Sewing machines can be hired for £8 per day if required.

Dressmaking for Beginners

In this introduction to Dressmaking you will learn how to:

  • Read a basic pattern.
  • Select sizes.
  • Mark pattern pieces.
  • Cut out accurately.
  • Sew a small item together.
  • Make buttonholes.

A Beginners starter pack, including everything you need – choice of fabric, buttons, interfacing and pattern is available for £10 cash on the day.

You will make a delightful small piece of clothing. We will teach you lots of dressmaking techniques to get you started on this lovely skill.

You MUST know how to use a sewing machine to attend this workshop.

Students are expected to bring:

  • Sewing machine (or use ours for £8 a day), foot control, plug, any feet, accessories.
  • Instruction Manual for your sewing machine.

Patchwork (by Machine) for Beginners

The following courses/workshops are now full.  Reserve bookings can be taken.

October 14th @ £42.00 + materials

This is a one-day introduction to the art of Patchwork and you needn't buy expensive equipment for it. Quilt the easy way, using a sewing machine and add backing to your small panel.

Learn how to:

  • Select suitable fabrics.
  • Test your design.
  • Cut out accurately.
  • Assemble accurately.
  • Apply quilting fabric.

Bring along:

  • Basic sewing equipment if you have any.
  • 25cm x 1 width each of 2 patterned patchwork fabrics. 25cm each of 2 plain contrasting fabrics (or pack available to purchase on the day for £15).
  • Matching threads.
  • Sewing machine (or use ours), foot control, plug, any feet, accessories and instruction manual. Sewing machines can be hired for £8 per day if required.

Roman Blinds or Curtains for Beginners

May 19th @ £42.00 + materials

This is a one-day introduction to the art of curtain or Roman blind making. Make a sample blind or curtain to take away, so you learn the techniques.

Learn how to:

  • Measure fabric.
  • Allow for hems and turnings.
  • Cut out accurately and ‘square’.
  • Assemble pieces together.
  • Select and apply headings.

Bring along:

  • Sewing machine (or use ours for £8 a day), including the foot control, plug, any feet, accessories and instruction manual.
  • 1 metre each of main cotton fabric and lining fabric.
  • Matching threads.
  • OR a pack will be available to purchase from the tutor on the day for £20.

Take home a sample, working Roman blind or sample regular lined curtain.  Participants must be able to use a sewing machine.

Sewing Machines - Learn to Love Your Machine

February 3rd @ £42.00 + materials

This is an introduction to using a sewing machine giving participants confidence to use their machines for great things.

Learn how to:

  • Select the various stitches.
  • Use the various feet.
  • Change the thread.
  • Explore the range of stitches.
  • De-mystify the controls.
  • Have confidence to sew.
  • Tend to the tensions.
  • Sew in a straight line.
  • Turn corners.

 Students are expected to bring:

  • Sewing machine (or use ours for £8 a day), foot control, plug, any feet, accessories.
  • Half a metre of patterned and half a metre of plain cotton fabric – both a width wide.
  • Matching threads.
  • Instruction Manual for your sewing machine.

Take home a lovely finished project.

You DO NOT have to own a machine to attend, but if you are thinking of buying, choose Brother or Janome - we have no problems with these - but make sure the stitch length & width can be altered independently.
