Applemac for Beginners

Just changed over from a PC and confused as to where everything is?  Need to find answers to problems?  Come along for a friendly helpful day. This course is designed for those with an interest in but lack knowledge of the Apple Mac Computer. The course will cover all the basic including the desktop and menus as well as specific software like iTunes.  You will cover:

  • the physical computer itself
  • a guided tour of the Mac interface
  • the Desktop
  • menus
  • key System Preferences
  • the Finder
  • using CDs, DVDs, & USB keys
  • a brief discussion about organizing and finding files
  • Safari along with some useful plugins, iChat, Skype, discussing online safety 
  • the Dashboard and its many widgets
  • managing your email with web based applications
  • using iTunes to play music and videos
  • using iPhoto to organise your photographs
  • trouble-shooting


Digital Photography for Beginners

This course is aimed at learners who have little or no experience of photography and editing images and will show you how to develop your skills and confidence further and use your camera more effectively connecting to PC or Apple Mac. The main emphasis of the day will be on how to take better photographs using your digital camera.  Both Barbara and Gail are experienced tutors who will use their joint expertise to show you how to upload your photos to a computer and to do basic editing using free online software. There will be a practical session outside, weather permitting (please bring appropriate clothing and footwear for outside work).  The following will be studied:

  • Identify basic camera settings
  • Composition and valuable tips
  • Working with light and shadow
  • Wildlife and landscape photography
  • Portrait photography
  • Still life photography
  • Guidelines on safety and respect in photography 
  • Email photographs
  • Uploading photographs and
  • Basic editing

iPad / iPhone for Beginners

This course is now full on both dates.

This course is for the complete beginner and those who wish to extend their knowledge of iPad technology further. The following aspects will be taught: 

  • A complete walk through your  iPad's settings
  • How to recharge your iPad
  • How to restart your iPad
  • Using gestures on your iPad
  • How to update iPad software
  • Using the keyboard
  • Browsing with Safari
  • How to set up mail on your iPad
  • Photographs and Photo Stream
  • A look at iPad Messages, iCloud, Calendar, Contacts, Reminders and Notes

Students will need to bring their own iPad, iPad mini or iPhone (fully charged and have it updated to the latest available operating system).



iPad / iPhone for Improvers

This course is now full on November 19th. Spaces available on March 4th.

  • Understanding Apple Maps, iTunes and Camera for iPad
  • How to update Apps
  • How to close an App
  • How to restore your iPad
  • How to stream films and music
  • How to use FaceTime on the iPad
  • How to use Siri on the iPad
  • Get the most out of Photo Stream
  • Using  multitasking gestures on your iPad
  • How to turn on the iPad's iTunes Match
  • How to save space on your iPad
  • How to customise your iPad
  • The best uses for the iPad
  • Great iPad tips every owner should know!

Students will need to bring their own iPad iPad mini or iPhone (fully charged and have it updated to the latest available operating system).
