Learn the basics with guitarist John Somerscales.  This 10-week course (building into 25-weeks if you wish) will look at chord shapes, simple melodies, strumming and finger-style techniques.  This class is for Beginners.  Please bring your own acoustic guitar.  You might also find a music stand useful.  (It is not necessary to be able to read music). This course is suitable for those that have already attended Acoustic Guitar for Beginners 1 or those who can already play the chords of G, D, C, A, Am, Em, Dm and are able to play simple single note melodies written in the guitar tablature system. This 10-week course will look at chord shapes, simple melodies, strumming and finger-style techniques.  This class is for Beginners.  Please bring your own acoustic guitar.  You might also find a music stand useful.  (It is not necessary to be able to read music). For students who have already attended Acoustic Guitar Beginners 1 and/or 2.  This 5-week course will continue to look at chord shapes, simple melodies, strumming and finger-style techniques.  This class is for improving Beginners.  Please bring your own acoustic guitar.  You might also find a music stand useful.  (It is not necessary to be able to read music). Acoustic Guitar for Improvers

This course is suitable for those that have already attended Acoustic Guitar for Beginners or for those that can already play the following:
•    Play the chords in the keys of:  D  G  A  E  C  Am  including the chords A7  D7  E7  B7.
•    Play fingerstyle arpeggios, plus basic alternating bass patterns with thumb.
•    Read and understand simple guitar instrumentals written in the guitar tablature system.
•    Understand and play the 12 bar blues chord sequence. 
(It is not necessary to be able to read music).
This 25-week course for Improvers will continue to develop your guitar playing skills.  Please bring your own acoustic guitar.

Singing for the Terrified

An introductory singing course for those who think they can't sing, especially for those terrified of singing and for people who haven't sung for a long time and need to brush up on their skills. Students will acquire knowledge of breathing and vocal techniques and technical exercises to open the voice: tuning, rhythm and vocal harmony and basics of reading music and following a score. They will be encouraged and supported in gaining self-confidence in their singing and therefore in themselves.

SongThreads Beginners Choir

This course is for those who have completed the Singing for the Terrified course (although please see comments about this at the end of this paragraph) and wish to continue and progress further in their learning. Students will improve and reinforce their knowledge of breathing and vocal techniques, tuning, rhythm, vocal harmony and basics of reading music and following a score. They will be encouraged to continue to gain self-confidence in their singing and therefore in themselves. Although the preference is that students attend Singing for the Terrified first, the tutor understands that some people will not be able to get to a class at 6pm but may wish to join, if that is your position then please enrol for this class and the tutor will endeavour to fill any gaps in your learning around technique, concepts and theoretical knowledge.

SongThreads Improvers Choir

An improvers singing class for those who have successfully completed Singing for the Terrified and SongThreads Beginners Choir and who are confident enough to sing more complicated arrangements and compositions for a mixed choir.  Students should be able to tune accurately, have a good sense of rhythm, sing in harmony and follow (not read) simple scores (written music).  This course will teach Vocal Technique, Vocal Harmony, the basics of Sight Reading and singing an intermediate level repertoire for 2, 3 and 4 voices. Patrissia hopes that the group may have an opportunity to take part in a performance in at least one of the terms this year, this is not compulsory - if you are not willing or interested in taking part in performances please just let her know – it will make no difference to your attendance on the course.

Singing for the Terrified  Workshop

A singing and vocal harmony workshop for people with under one year’s experience singing, including those who have never sung, those who believe they can't sing and also those who can sing a little but want to improve and learn new skills. We will be working on basic breathing and vocal techniques, understanding how scores (printed music) work, tuning and rhythm from basic to improvers and simple arrangements and compositions for 2, 3 and 4 voices.

Songthreads Choir Workshop

November 19th, March 4th, May 20th @ £20.00 per workshop

This workshop will be aimed at people with over one year’s experience of singing, including advanced singers, who want to improve and develop their vocal technique, their musicality and vocal harmony ensemble abilities and who are keen to be challenged in all those areas.  No sight reading required but participants should be able to follow 3/4 voice scores and understand the relevant instructions; they should have the ability to tune and learn slightly complex rhythms correctly and to follow dynamics. They should also be willing to take the challenge of working on simple arrangements in different languages
