The Oxfordshire Book Award 2010 will be presented to the author of the best book of 2009, written for young people. It is entirely chosen by young people in schools in Oxfordshire.

Kids Lit Quiz, Monday 23 November 2009 |
**update** Wheatley Park School went on win the National Quiz and will now represent the UK in the World Final taking place next June.
Well done to our two teams who competed in the regional heat of the Kids Lit Quiz. Despite a valiant effort by both teams, we did not win through to the UK National Final taking place on Friday. Thank you also to our two reserves, who patiently sat through all the questions and supported the teams.
The winning school was Wheatley Park School who scored an impressive 95½ answers correct out of 100.
The Kids' Lit Quiz is an annual literature quiz for students aged 10 - 13 years. Quizzes are held in New Zealand, the UK, South Africa and China. Visit the website www.kidslitquiz.com for more information and sample questions.

Joint first place goes to Sally Cunningham (7R) and Ben Vickars (7U), who both received £5 book tokens.

Oxfordshire Book Award Ceremony with Michael Rosen and Nick Sharratt |
On Friday 9th October, Mrs Marshall took a group of 12 students to the Oxfordshire Book Award ceremony being held in Abingdon School. The winners of the primary school category were there to accept their award for their book Mother Goose. Michael Rosen, the author, is well known as a children's author, poet and broadcaster and was Children's Laureate 2008-2009. Nick Sharratt, the illustrator, has always been interested in art and drawing from an early age, he also has done many books including the Tracy Beaker series by Jacqueline Wilson. Both were very entertaining and answered many questions from the audience on their writings and drawings.

Author visit Julie Hearn
We were pleased to welcome the author Julie Hearn back to visit as part of the Woodstock Literary Festival. Students attended from years 8 and 9. Julie's talk was entitled 'Plundering the Past', focussing particularly on her books 'Follow Me Down', and 'Rowan the Strange'. Julie's other books include 'The Merrybegot', 'Hazel' & 'Ivy'. All are set in the past.
