From the Head of Sixth Form

I am delighted that you are interested in the Sixth Form at the Marlborough School. Our Sixth Form brochure 2010-11 is available as a pdf download and aims to give you a flavour of its opportunities and its ethos. Our Curriculum brochure 2010-11 gives details of the Sixth Form courses.

Of course, academic success will be your main concern as you consider the opportunities that you will be offered at The Marlborough School. We believe that every student, who has a high level of commitment and who is on a programme of study well suited to individual needs, can excel at The Marlborough School. Excellent, dedicated teachers provide a strong foundation of stimulating teaching, personal tutoring and guidance that will support you to achieve your goals. We also place skills enrichment, citizenship and personal development at the heart of our sixth form life.

The sixth form at The Marlborough School offers you:

•   Diversity and choice through an expanding range of subjects and types of courses, which offers more choice than ever to students. We offer 30 subjects at Advanced Level which includes both traditional GCEs and Applied A Levels.

•   Purpose-built accommodation to enable students to study and socialise in appropriate and comfortable surroundings.. This includes an ICT suite, quiet study areas and a garden for the dedicated use of Sixth Form students.

•   A dynamic and wide-ranging programme of enrichment activities including educational trips and visits; sport, music and drama; active citizenship and leadership activities.

•   The AQA Baccalaureate from September 2009. For aspiring students, this qualification will build on the depth of study provided by A Levels; enable breadth of study through A Levels in Critical Thinking or Citizenship; demonstrate independent study skills through an extended project; and develop more rounded individuals with the experiences, skills and personal qualities which competitive universities and employers are looking for.

The Sixth Form at The Marlborough School is increasingly popular. With careful guidance, which begins now and throughout years 12 and 13, we seek to achieve the very best for each and every student. The fact that over 75% of our students continue to Higher or Further Education is testimony to their success and to the ethos that we create in the Marlborough sixth form.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like further information or to visit our facilities.
