Absences and medical care
Absences
Parents are asked, if possible , to telephone the school to inform us of a child's absence. Confirmation in writing, also explaining the absence, is required on a child's return to school.

Please note that the Law now insists that parents do not have the right to authorise absence, therefore requests for leave of absence must be made to the Headteacher, via the Form Tutor, at least a day in advance. Dental and hospital appointments should be made out of school time whenever possible.

Medical care
Pupils who are feeling unwell must report, in the first instance, to their Form Tutors. Arrangements may then be made for them to be taken to the Medical Room. A qualified First Aider is on call during school hours to deal with emergencies.
Parents must notify us if a child is carrying prescribed drugs in school. It is also quite important for us to know why. With one exception the school cannot, and will not, dispense any form of medication without the explicit consent of parents.
Swine Flu (posted 2 September 2009)
We are following guidance from the OCC. Full details are on their website here. The main guidance is as follows:
- Anyone ill with swine flu should not attend work or school whilst ill. Return when fully recovered.
- Pupils arriving in school with flu like symptoms need to be sent home immediately, and be kept separate from others whilst waiting for collection.
- For those who are well, swine flu should not affect going to work, school or other activities.
- Those who have been in contact with cases of flu and are fit and well fit into the same category as people who are well with no restrictions on their activities.
- Tutors will remind pupils of hygiene measures to reduce the risk of infection spreading, i.e. wash hands as often as possible, and sneezing into tissues and then throwing them away.
- The school aims to remain open during a pandemic, and will follow further advice from the OCC and DCFS in the case of a pandemic.
