Dear Parents and Carers,
We are writing to announce our virtual Prospective Parents’ Events and Information sharing programme, which will begin on Tuesday 29th September, the date of our proposed Open Morning here at school. We know the importance of choosing the right school for your child, and how important it is for your child(ren) to feel confident and happy with the transition process to secondary school. We have got an expert team in place with years of experience managing the transition process and we are confident that there is no situation we haven’t encountered before, no question we would consider not worth asking, and no limit to the help and support we will provide for you and your child.
In normal circumstances we would welcome hundreds of parents and pupils to our school for our Prospective Parents’ Evening. They would have the chance to listen to speeches from the Principal, Mr Hanlon, as well as testimonies from Year 7 pupils who have recently joined the Marlborough family along with some more experienced pupils who would provide reflections on their varied experiences and numerous opportunities during their time at Marlborough.
The school would be a cauldron of excitement, purpose, demonstrations, practical activities, fun and engagement. Unfortunately, due to the current circumstances we are unable to host this important event in the school calendar.
However, we are determined to do all we can to provide you with a sense of what our school looks and feels like and provide you with the opportunity to ask us any questions at all about potential applications and the transition process. We have decided against hosting a ‘live virtual event’, as we feel this approach precludes those parents and carers who are unable to commit to a particular time of the day. Recording our information and having a dedicated channel of communication available, allows parents and carers the freedom to access our key information at their own convenience. It also provides the opportunity for them to pose specific questions which are important to their child.
We have therefore planned to replicate the experience of Open Evening and Open Mornings as much as we can. This will mean that parents and carers will have:
· A virtual introduction to all the key members of staff, as well as hearing from some of our students as they share their experiences of starting secondary school;
· An online Guide for Parents and Carers, detailing the transition process from start to finish, sharing the key information and answering frequently asked questions;
· A virtual tour of the school, so that you and your child can get a real feel for life at Marlborough. You will gain an insight into the learning environment, including seeing our specialist subject teaching areas;
· An opportunity for all parents and carers to contact us with questions on a dedicated email address, with responses directly from key pastoral staff members who are involved in the transition process.
Later in the year, we have arranged virtual meetings for all Year 6 pupils and their teachers to take place in all the primary schools pupils come to us from. These will be held with the Transition Lead and SENCo, Mrs McCleary.
We hope this information will help you to decide that The Marlborough School is the right place for your child to flourish. We look forward to sharing our school with you and welcome any questions or comments you may have.
