King Prize for Creative Writing - Winners Announced
The King Prize for Creative Writing is now in its 6th year, and the judges were delighted with the incredibly high level of entries - making it very difficult to narrow down to a short list of 6. At our prize giving assembly on the 15th November, we were joined by Melanie King, who, together with her husband Ross, generously endows the prize which has inspired fantastic creative writing at our school since its inception in 2012. Out of a large and competitive field, the 6 short listed entries were:
Charlie Knight for The Republic Deserter
Clara Emmett for A Spider’s Dance
Ellie Norton for 7:40 pm
Georgina Lay for The Glow of Constellations
Georgina Rose for Bookmarks
Polly Hipkiss for Time Trial
The winner was Ellie Norton, with Charlie Knight in second place and Georgia Lay in third.
In the words of Melanie King: "Some stories were clever and well thought out. Others were deeply depressing or sinister and were ripping good yarns. When I read these stories, it confirmed to us that the prize is worthwhile." We could not agree more! We would like to express a huge thank you to Ross and Melanie King for their continuing support of our budding writers through the prize.
We would love to see your entry for the 2018 prize. The deadline is Thursday 26th April 2018. Please speak to your English teacher or Ms. Mathiesen to find out more.
