[8+] or [13+] means courses are suitable for ages 8 or 13 upwards when accompanied by a paying, participating adult.

[16+] means courses are suitable for ages 16 upwards, with written parental consent. All other courses are for adults over the age of eighteen.


Drawing and Painting for Beginners [W]

A perfect opportunity if you have always wanted to try drawing and painting but feel you need some guidance. Sarah is an experienced artist and expert tutor. She will introduce you to the basic principles and techniques of both drawing and painting using a variety of media and working from still life and images. No previous skills necessary. It will include the opportunity to use paint, pencil and charcoal, consider composition, tone and mark making, and look at and discuss the drawings and paintings of other artists.

Acrylic Painting in a Day [S] [13+]

Spend a day with our experienced artist and expert tutor who will take you on an exploration of acrylic painting techniques such as washes, glazing, blending, impasto, scumbling and sgrafitto. You will also look at colour mixing, composition, and how to create a successful picture. Suitable for beginners and those with some experience.

Drawing with Confidence [S] [13+]

John Somerscales is a local artist and patient tutor. He will teach you how to construct and render objects accurately, explore different media and techniques and experiment with mark-making and shading, plus lots more. Suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience.

Watercolour Picture Making [S] [13+]

If you already have some experience using watercolours, this workshop will help you put your skills to best use to create interesting and exciting pictures. You will consider such aspects as subject matter, composition, tonal range, colour and movement.

Let experienced Art Technician Mel take you through a variety of printing techniques where you will have the opportunity to explore Lino, Collagraph and Mono printing with the aim of producing final prints. We will begin by practicing each technique and the printing process to be able to develop individual final designs. We will then enjoy printing your very own prints for card making or simply individual beautiful prints on a variety of recycled and new paper and card.

Let experienced Art Technician Mel take you through a variety of Arts and Crafts where you will have the opportunity to explore different processes in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Develop your own creative knowledge as well as the confidence to revisit techniques at home and with mindfulness at the heart of each workshop you will craft at your own pace using plaster casting, paper, marbling, tie dye and more.


Casting Workshop [S] [13+]
Saturday 10th October
10:00-12:30 Half day  £30 + own materials
Tutor: Mel Greenwood

This one day workshop will show you how to create a cast by making impressions in wet clay with everyday objects or flowers and leaves and then pouring over Plaster of Paris. Picking up the fine detail you will be able to create beautiful impressions.


Tie Dye Workshop [S] [13+]

During this workshop you will learn how to Tie Dye using a range of methods A fun and therapeutic workshop using Dylon dyes to explore different techniques including some Shibori tying techniques to produce a tie dye T-shirt of your own.

Please bring along a T-shirt and some scraps of fabric for experimenting


Lino Printing Workshop [S] [13+]
Saturday 6th February
10:00-16:00

During this one day workshop we will begin the day practicing using tools and the printing process followed by an afternoon of developing an idea and creating a final print to make your very own cards. This technique is great for continuing to develop at home and enables you to create number of designs and projects.


Willow Workshop [S] [13+]
Saturday 13th February

This one day workshop will show you how to design and make your own willow lantern or sculpture using weaveable willow and wet strength tissue paper. Mel will take you through from idea, design, plan and making of your own piece of willow sculpture.
