Welcome to Design and Technology at The Marlborough School:
Where mutual support meets mutual challenge.
Where risk taking is wanted, necessary and nurtured. Where to be curious is cool and anything is possible.
This works on the principle of systemically personifying the culture of continual, aligned small improvements leading to a greater sum of all improvements. We are an agile department where students and staff collaborate to work towards the best outcomes for each individual child.
Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8, 9)
In KS3 we offer a broad range of experiences across all material areas: food; textiles; graphics and resistant materials.
Students follow through the design process from design brief to evaluation of their manufactured product. In all courses the students learn through practical work as much as possible.
We aim to marry traditional craft skills and the latest technologies to give the students the best possible experience at KS3 and to enable them to make informed options at KS4.
In Year 7 and 8 your child will have one teacher for the year as we think this is more important rather than rotating teachers for projects. Therefore they will either do Food/Textiles in Year 7 and Resistant Materials (woods, metals, plastics) in Year 8 of visa-versa.
Projects your child will undertake include:
FOOD/TEXTILES: Healthy Eating; Textiles Notebook; Nutrition Health and Safety; Textiles Pencil Case.
For interactive tutorials, recipes and background information for Food Technology visit www.licencetocook.co.uk (logins available from your teacher)
RESISTANT MATERIALS/GRAPHICS: Bookmark; Plastic Jewellery; Pop-Up Card; Metal Nutcracker, Wooden Cam Toy;,
In Year 9 they will rotate at Christmas to give them the best experience from which to make their options.
Point of Sale Display; Mixed Materials Candle Holder; Textiles Surface Pattern; Wooden Pencil Box; Where is our Food from?
