30th Anniversary of Marlborough's German Exchange
Marlborough School welcomed German exchange guests from Cologne in September for an exciting week of making new friends, cultural learning and showing of the best Oxfordshire has to offer. 25 students came to stay in our very excited host families, went to a number of lessons and explored the county. Our Cologne guests really appreciated the chance to taste some typical British foods and dishes, get to know their English exchange partner and family in their free time and get a flavour of what it feels like to spend a day in school uniform in lessons at Marlborough School. We all enjoyed our communal Anglo-German excursion to view Wembley stadium and Windsor and were delighted that the British weather was rather kind to us.
At the end of our German exchange week we were absolutely delighted to formally mark and celebrate the 30th year of our German exchange with Cologne together with students, parents and past as well as present staff. To mark this occasion we communally planted a discovery apple tree that we are looking forward to watch grow and bear fruit in the real as well as symbolical sense. We celebrated with delicious cake, moving speeches and had a chance to look through 30 years of our exchange archives indulging our nostalgic memories but also looking forward and planning the next 30 years. It can't be emphasised often enough that an annual foreign exchange has become a rarity among secondary comprehensives due to the growing amount of red tape and regulations. This makes it an extra special reason for us to celebrate out strong and long standing partnership.
