Governors
Welcome from the Chair of Governors
I would like to introduce myself as Chair of Governors at The Marlborough C of E School. I have been a governor here since 2018. I live in Witney, and am a retired Deputy Head teacher: most of my career has been spent working in senior leadership in West Oxfordshire.
The governing board at The Marlborough is made up of a small group of volunteers with a wide range of experience. We meet regularly to help support and challenge the work of the Leadership Team and are dedicated to achieving the very best outcomes for students.
The school’s governing board is responsible for:
-
Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school.
-
Holding the school leaders to account for the educational and financial performance of the school.
-
Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure money is well spent.
It is a strategic, rather than an operational role: what we do not do is make decisions on behalf of the school or get involved in planning: this is the job of school leaders. Our role is to challenge and support those school leaders by listening and asking questions and, where relevant, share our own perspectives and experiences.
The school’s outcomes and its reputation are strong: it continues to develop and grow. As Chair of Governors I am very pleased and proud to be in a position to support that development, and to be able to work with such a dedicated and positive team.
There is more information about governors on this page of the website. If you would like to know more, please do contact me at chair@themarlboroughschool.org.
