Cologne Marathon 2017

On Sunday 1st October, thousands of runners took to the streets of Cologne to compete in the annual Cologne Marathon with the Marlborough runners amongst them.

In a change to the usual format, we competed in a 4 leg relay and a 4km race, both of which were well organised with amazing support.

We had 6 runners competing against a field of 851 in the 4km race; Robbie Floyd (213th), Ellie Broome (246th), HM (346th), Polly Hipkiss (352nd), Oscar Gibson (457th) and Maia Melhuish (559th).

The 4 leg relay was new to us, each runner had to run a lot further than in the previous schools marathon but we did a fine job. The teams finished 2nd and 3rd out of 50 in the schools competition and an amazing 14th and 15th out of 750 in the overall competition.

Marlborough team 1 (Zak Gibson, Ben Davies, Jamie Conway, Bertie Warr) finished in a time of 2hrs 55 minutes.

Marlborough team 2 (Charlie Ellis, Ollie Conway, Tom Johnson, Adam Ede) finished in 2hrs 57 minutes.

We are already looking forward to next years race where we plan to have student teams and a teacher team. And the big question…who will win?
