Transition to Year 7

Wednesday 15th July

Dear Parents, Carers and Year 6 students,

I am delighted to be able to share your form group for September.

You will have received an email that explains which group you are in and a link to a powerpoint with a video from your Form Tutor.

These videos are also available here.

As we are nearing the summer holidays, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for your overwhelmingly positive feedback on the transition process. I have very much enjoyed virtually visiting our Year 6s and reading about you all through your booklets. I know you are going to be a fantastic Year Group and all the staff at Marlborough are looking forward to you joining our family in September.

We will be in touch over the summer holidays to confirm the plan for induction in September.

I hope you have a nice summer break and stay safe,

Kind regards,

Mrs A McCleary

Dear Parents, Carers and Year 6 Teachers,

This week we are launching our Virtual Transition Event. This is designed to give students an experience of day-to-day life in Year 7. However, instead of just the five lessons that students would usually have in one day, we have provided lessons from a whole range of subjects for students to sample. Therefore, you may decide to run the sessions over more than one day.

We know that many students will participate in these lessons with their Year 6 teachers at school over this week, but we would also encourage parents and carers to get involved too.

The Virtual Transition Event is set out below in the following table with links to the sessions. This provides a suggested structure to the sessions, like a timetable. This begins with an assembly from Mr Hanlon and Mrs McCleary. Most lessons require students to have writing or drawing materials at the ready, you also will see a second link in the table if there are other resources provided.

We have had a lot of fun making these sessions, we hope the students (and adults) enjoy the learning too!

As always, we are just an email away – Mrs Anna McCleary,  if you have any questions at all.

Ms Elli Bromley

Assistant Headteacher: Culture and Ethos

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this email finds you well. I write to inform you of the next stage in our transition process. We are really appreciative of your children's enthusiasm for the activity booklets, and for your ongoing support in all aspects of their move to Marlborough. We know that you are busy preparing students both practically and emotionally for September, and are grateful for your time and effort.

You will find attached a comprehensive Transition Guide for Parents and Carers, which is designed to answer the questions you may have. It is attached in power point and pdf format.

Also attached you will find a letter on behalf of Paul James, the CEO of River Learning Trust. Our affiliation to the trust is explained in the guide, but there is further information on our website: click here.

This week we are launching our Virtual Transition Sessions, with a sample day at Marlborough School - including an assembly and lots of lessons. Whilst many of your children will be accessing this with their current teachers at Primary School we encourage you to have a look to.

Please do contact us if you or your child has any questions at all - we are here to support you with whatever you individually need.

Yours faithfully

Ms Elli Bromley

Monday 15th June 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

We hope you and your families are keeping safe and well.

We are writing to you to explain the next stage of your child’s induction to The Marlborough C of E School. Our transition process is centred on the core principles of welcoming students and their families to the school and supporting every individual child to feel at home and confident in their new school. Whilst this year the process is different from expected, our intentions are no different.

This stage of the process is really important for us in learning about each individual child and getting to know our newest members of the Marlborough family. It is also important for the students to learn more about their new school. Accompanying this letter, you will find a welcome pack for your child. We encourage everyone to have a look through and complete some or all of the activities. It will help students to research school from our website and to tell us all about themselves in a letter and/or in a creative way. We are really eager to find out more about our future Year 7s in their own words.

As well as this, we will be showing you around the school in our welcome video, which will be sent to you very soon. As we are unable to run our usual transition days this year, the video will familiarise you with the school. It introduces you and your child to key members of staff, provides a virtual tour of important areas of the school and reveals current students’ advice for our new students! Watch this space!

We know that many families are already thinking ahead and are looking to purchase new school uniform. If you need a reminder of this information, it is available on our website in both the ‘Uniform’ information and the ‘Transition’ area. If your child is currently eligible for Free School Meals or is otherwise eligible for the Pupil Premium, then we will be sending you further information including details of financial support for purchasing school uniform. If you have any questions about uniform, financial assistance or eligibility of Free School Meals, then please contact Ms Bromley on her direct email:

We will continue to communicate with you regularly and all our transition resources are on the Marlborough School website so that you can revisit them. We have moved this area to one of the four main tabs on our Home Page so you can find it really easily!

Across the next few weeks we will be sending you the School Guide for parents and be addressing some of your Frequently Asked Questions. In the meantime, if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us. Mrs McCleary, Transition and Year 7 Pastoral Lead, can be contacted on her direct email:

Yours faithfully

Thursday 21st May 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am delighted to welcome you to The Marlborough C of E School community. As your child will be joining our Year 7 cohort in September you are now part of the Marlborough family. Here at The Marlborough C of E School, your school, we take great pride in our school vision and living our values in our everyday thoughts, actions and behaviour.

The end of primary school and the beginning of secondary school is an extremely important time for your child, for you and for us. Despite the uncertainty, and in the absence of our usual structured induction process, we are more committed than ever to ensuring that the transition process runs smoothly, and that every child and family is supported. Despite schools being closed, I can assure you that all the usual meetings that take place between ourselves, Year 6 teachers and SENCOs at your primary schools are currently in process.

Next week, we would usually be welcoming your child to the first Induction Day planned for the morning of 19th May. We are looking at ways in which we can provide alternative events that enable our new pupils and parents to feel prepared for their start at Marlborough. Our ideas include a welcome video, a virtual tour of the school, meetings for pupils with key members of staff; a School Guide for parents; an activity pack for pupils; and we have already started to plan a specific ‘Induction Fortnight’ for the first two weeks (hopefully in September!) when your children finally arrive at Marlborough. We will adapt our time-table to make sure all pupils are completely prepared for their secondary experience.

Thank you to those parents who have already returned the Parent and Pupil Contribution form and Data Collection sheet. These can be sent through the post, hand-delivered to school or emailed to our Year 7 Administrator, Julie Brinkworth at

We are fortunate at Marlborough in having an Induction Team of many years’ experience. Overseeing Key Stage 3 is our Assistant Headteacher, Ms Bromley, whilst in charge of the Transition process and pastoral leadership of Year 7 is Mrs McCleary. She sends this message to the pupils:

"Dear Year 7, class of 2020,

Hello! I wanted to send a simple message to let you know that I am thinking about you and your families. I am so looking forward to meeting you all in person. I am currently in the process of meeting all of your teachers and finding out all about you, gathering as much information as possible. I can’t wait for the time when we will be able to meet in person and I can show you around your new school.

We are extremely proud of our culture here at Marlborough and I know that all the older students and the staff are looking forward to welcoming you to this caring environment, where we live our values of respect, ambition, equality, perseverance, honesty and community. In the meantime, I look forward to reading the contribution sheets you are sending back to school in order to learn more about you. I will also be sending you an activity booklet which will introduce you to life and learning at Marlborough. I hope you enjoy completing it.

Whilst we cannot control what is happening around us at the moment, we can try to control how we act and feel, and try to take positives out of this situation. I wonder what you can do to show you are supporting your community, being ambitious in your learning, and persevering through the challenges?

Take care and stay safe, Mrs A McCleary.”

We will be in touch soon with more information. Our school was significantly over-subscribed again this year so we are delighted that you have been able to secure a place. I cannot wait to meet you all and it will be a great day when we can all be together and celebrate being part of our special school.

In the meantime, if you have any questions or queries about induction or starting at Marlborough, please do not hesitate to can contact Mrs McCleary directly on

With all our warmest wishes,

Mr. A. Hanlon
