Wainwright Coast to Coast Walk - by Mrs Langton, Art Technician at The Marlborough School
Back
This summer my family and I swapped summer holidays for hiking boots and took on the Wainwright Coast to Coast Walk, from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire - 192 miles across the country in 14 days! We took on the challenge to raise money for the refurbishment of the kitchen in the Ormerod Resource Base, which kept us going whenever the hills got tough!
Walking through Ennerdale in the Lake District National Park was absolutely glorious - sunshine, mountains, and that early-stage determination and enthusiasm before the reality of the miles ahead of us set in. The climb of Kidsty Pike standing at 780m was rewarded with… cloud! Completely enveloped, we celebrated our invisible view with flapjacks and laughter.
We finally reached Robin Hood’s Bay, dipped our boots in the North Sea, and celebrated with a well-deserved posh nosh-up - though not so posh that we kept our boots on! We finished our adventure tired and proud, and full of gratitude for the scenery, the laughter, and the memories.
Thank you to everyone who supported us along the way. Together we raised £800 for the Ormerod Resource Base. Warm wishes, Van, Angus, Islay, Árann and Rosie.
