Silver Duke of Edinburgh Expedition

Most of our Silver Duke of Edinburgh students have already completed their Bronze expeditions, as well as a practice expedition in the Cotswolds. However, for their assessed expedition, the stakes—and the hills—got significantly higher for our 57 Silver DofE students. They packed their hiking bags and set off for the rolling, expansive terrain of Marlborough, Wiltshire, to embark on a three-day expedition that tested their endurance.

Unlike Bronze, the Silver award requires an extra day of self-sufficiency. This means heavier packs, more complex meal planning, and an increased demand for mental fortitude. Over the course of the 72-hour trek, the students covered significant mileage, navigating the undulating landscape of the North Wessex Downs.

Completion of this Silver expedition is a significant milestone. These 57 students have shown they possess the resilience and technical skill required for independent travel in wild country. They return to school not just with tired feet, but with a newfound sense of capability and stronger bonds with their peers. Conversations are already starting about the prospect of doing their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award when they are in Year 12.

A huge well done to all the Silver teams—you’ve set a fantastic standard for those following in your footsteps!
